So I have to start off by saying my review might be a bit biased. I truly believe that Andy Serkis is one of the most incredible character actors to ever hit the screen. That being said, I believe this movie still will blow your expectations away.
Right from the second the movie started you are thrust into this brutal war between man and ape. Soldiers donned gear reading “Monkey Killer” and “Bedtime for Bonzo”, seeming very reminiscent to the Vietnam War. I usually am all about the battle scenes, but in this film I found myself loving the more emotional ones. When Caesar was reunited with his son it was a full on “aw” moment. That’s what I think was so incredible about this film. No longer are the Planet of the Ape films centered around men in gorilla suits. These films were able to make what has always been more on the silly side and make these characters relatable. Watching them live and love and feel throughout this film made it all the more powerful.
Visually this movie was beautiful. I kept finding myself almost distracted by the scenery. Waterfalls, forest and bodies of water take up a good portion of this film and it felt really organic to the story.
Lately, the big franchise enders have left a lot to be desired *cough cough RESIDENT EVIL cough cough*. I didn’t feel that way whatsoever with this film. This franchise really came full circle and is a film that I would definitely watch again. Have you seen this film? What do you think? Let us know!
