Never in my life have I ever seen a horror film franchise deliberately tarnish its legacy in one fell swoop quite like Jeepers Creepers 3. Now I’m not claiming Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2 are some revelation to the genre but they were enjoyable to watch. That isn’t necessarily the case when it comes to this third installment of the Jeepers Creepers movies.
My number one issue with this film is that it does not make a lick of sense. Is the focus the truck? The creation of the monster himself? No one knows because each storyline is told about halfway through and then completely forgotten. I continued to wait for the answers to the questions inspired throughout the film and they just never came. As stated previously, the Jeepers Creepers films weren’t perfect, but at least they made sense. Monster kills people to eat them so he can regenerate. That’s it. If this film had just followed that format, I would have loved it as much as I love the previous films.
Everything from the acting to special effects was half-assed at best. I couldn’t take anything seriously with the extra slow-mo effects added to so many scenes unnecessarily. I’m not sure how anyone in the editing department watched through this film and thought it was okay. My only assumption is that the intention was to be so bad that people some how tolerated the mess.
The only redeeming quality for me was a background actor. Every time something having to do with the monster was going on, he was just in view with the most severe stank face I have ever seen in my life. It was honestly the best acting done by any member of the ensemble because in this situation that would most likely be my reaction as well.
All I can hope is that after this dumpster fire of a movie that they will halt any further plans of additional movies.
